About Schlaegle

Casey Schlaegle’s passion for woodworking was sparked at an early age in his father’s shop, where he developed both skill and appreciation for the craft. Determined to turn that passion into a business, he launched Schlaegle Design Build on April Fools Day in 2011. The early years were anything but easy—Casey took on every project he could find, from countertops to construction, just to keep the business afloat. Navigating the complexities of running a company, he learned essential skills on the fly, including a crash course in accounting through QuickBooks. By 2018, despite steady growth, the company’s reliance on Excel spreadsheets and outdated processes created operational bottlenecks, making it difficult to scale efficiently.

What started as a basement operation with $30,000 in revenue has since grown into a thriving business, employing 35 people in a 25,000-square-foot facility with projected revenue surpassing $10 million. Some of Schlaegle's work can be seen at Carnegie Mellon University, Nemacolin, and PNC Park.

The Challenges

  • Inefficient Workflows – Manual systems led to redundant data entry and operational bottlenecks
  • Limited Visibility – Difficulty tracking key metrics like production capacity and project profitability
  • Lack of Integration – No unified tools to align the team on operational priorities.
  • Outdated Purchasing Processes – Paper-based systems created inefficiencies, highlighted during the COVID-19 pandemic

The Solution

  • Integrated ERP System – Replaced spreadsheets with a unified platform for real-time production, capacity, and financial management
  • Data-Driven Decision-Making – Provided education and mentorship through industry forums and peer interactions
  • Change Management Support – INNERGY’s team guided process adoption, ensuring company-wide alignment and efficiency

Key Results:

  • Revenue Growth – Scaled from $30,000 in 2011 to $8M in 2023, with $10M projected.
  • Profitability Focus – Shifted from revenue volume to optimizing contribution margin per hour.
  • Operational Efficiency – Streamlined workload meetings, cutting time from hours to 45 minutes.
  • Cultural Transformation – Fostered continuous improvement with company-wide education and engagement.
